Even if others do your insurance billing for you, it's imperative that you have the basic knowledge of what forms and information that is necessary. You will need to know how to properly and legally document treatment when a patient approaches you to accept their insurance for reimbursement. Medical Cases are Legal Cases. Be sure you do this right to protect yourself in so many ways.
While our fees may be a bit higher, your losses will be a whole lot less, to say nothing of the headaches you will be relieved of, the time you will save and the money you will lose if not properly done from the start and continuing on until you put the money in your bank!!
We hear all of the complaints, the latest being an LMT was severely depressed because his billing service informed him he had $32,000 uncollectable claims. Turns out she billed many claims that were not reimburseable from the start, she should have known and notified the therapist not to take those cases. In another case an attorney hired me to help with a case where the LMT was being sued for major billing errors, turns out if his billing service had ethically, morally and educationally notified him of what procedures and cases to be aware of, this would not have happened.
This goes not only for billing services but for those who decide to bill insurance on their own without knowing the rules, laws and guidelines.
